Day 3 in my philosophical journey and this is a fun one; the liar paradox. What amazes me is how my mind gets confused about its own ideas.
Why am I doing this challenge? Check day 1! Happiness for me is knowledge and growth. I have never done anything like philosophising before. The logical step for me was to try it out!
Is the speaker who just said “I’m lying” speaking the truth?
Consider only that sentence, not something the person said before that or is going to say afterwards.
If I say “I am lying”, and I am telling the truth, it means that I am not lying.
If I say “I am lying”, and I am not telling the truth, it implies that I am lying.
So I think I am saying a sentence with no meaning at all because there is a contradiction. It is not true nor false.
But what if I know exactly what I am saying (I know the meaning of a lie)?
If I say “I am lying”, and I am telling the truth, It means I am not lying and therefore telling the truth.
If I say “I am lying”, and I am not telling the truth, I am aware that I am lying. So actually I am telling the truth.
What do you think?
